8th Elective General Assembly Meeting

The 8th Ordinary Elective General Assembly Meeting of the Union of NGOs of the Islamic World (UNIW) was held on Friday, December 8, 2017, at the Topkapı-Fatih Akgün Hotel in Istanbul.

Upon establishing that meeting quorum was achieved, Secretary General Atty. Ali Kurt delivered the opening address of the General Assembly. The Presidium Bureau was unanimously formed, electing Atty. Necati Ceylan as Presidium President, Atty. Hamza Akbulut and Atty. Mehmet Cengiz as Vice Presidents, and Atty. Hakkı Aygün as Secretary Member.

Following deliberations and approval of the agenda, the operational activity reports of the Union were presented and reviewed, leading to the formal discharge of the UNIW Secretariat and Council activities. Subsequently, the Union budget and auditing report read by UNIW Financial Adviser Cengiz Bayındır were formally approved by the general assembly members.

A motion to add an urgent item titled "Jerusalem Belongs to Us" to the General Assembly agenda was accepted. Members of the UNIW General Assembly from various countries across the world delivered addresses expressing solidarity with Jerusalem.

In the elections held during this General Assembly, Atty. Ali Kurt was re-elected as Secretary General of the Union.

Furthermore, full Council members were elected as follows: Eyüp Akbal (Turkey), Ahmad Azam Ab Rahman (Malaysia), Muhammad Abdus Shakoor (Pakistan), Prof. Dr. Abdurrahim Ali Muhammad (Sudan), Hakan Musab Aydın (Germany), Oki Sediati (Indonesia), Dr. Said Alghadie (UK), Prof. Dr. Houssein Bouayyed (Morocco), Dr. Abdulraqeb Obad (Yemen), and Imad Said (Lebanon).

Alternate Council members elected were: Maulana Abdul Khalik Allie (South Africa), S. M. Rasheduzzaman (Bangladesh), Shukri Joueili (Libya), Prof. Dr. Antonio Romero Abdussamed (Spain), Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai (USA), T. Arif Ali (India), Mehdi Gurra (Albania), Atty. Mokhtar Ashri (Egypt), Saleh Sharif (Somalia), and Harun Khatibi (Afghanistan).

Elected as full members of the Supervisory Board were: Recep Songül (Turkey), Dr. Muhammad Humeykani (Yemen), and Ade Salamon (Indonesia); while alternate members elected were Khalilullah Madjanov (Kazakhstan), Sheikh Hassan Elsetohy (Australia), and Ibrahim Bulushi (Kenya).

Delivering his address, the Secretary General thanked members and provided briefings regarding projects executed during the past term and strategic projects planned for the new term.

Subsequently, proposed amendments to the Union Bylaws were presented to General Assembly members, and the finalized version of the new Bylaws in Turkish, English, Arabic, and French was officially approved.

During the 8th Elective General Assembly, alongside evaluations of past terms, consultations were held regarding strategic objectives for the new term. In this framework, briefings were shared on existing projects including the International Civil Society Academy (USTA), International Family Institute (IFI / UAE), Kashmir Conference, International Rohingya Relief Consortium (ICR), and International Youth Gatherings (UGB).

The meeting concluded following discussions by General Assembly members regarding execution timelines and financing of UNIW projects.
