UNIW 10th Elective General Assembly

The 10th Elective General Assembly of the Union of NGOs of the Islamic World (UNIW), the organization's highest decision-making body, was successfully convened with broad participation and a high level of representation. The General Assembly was held to strengthen UNIW's institutional structure, review the activities of the previous term, and determine the strategic priorities and objectives for the upcoming period.

As a result of the elections held during the General Assembly, Eyüp Akbal, who has been serving as the Secretary General of UNIW, was re-elected for a second term with the confidence and support of the member organizations. This outcome reflects the institutional recognition of the achievements accomplished during the previous term and demonstrates the continuity of UNIW's stable and visionary leadership. The elections also resulted in the appointment of the new Deputy Secretaries General and Council Members, with the aim of further enhancing the Union's effectiveness in both national and international activities.

The 10th Elective General Assembly was attended by a distinguished gathering of representatives from public institutions, civil society organizations, and international partners. Among the participants were Mr. Davut Gül, Governor of Istanbul; Mr. Mahmut Gürcan, Deputy Minister of Trade of the Republic of Türkiye; Prof. Dr. Halis Yunus Ersöz, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Türkiye; Mr. Ali Kurt and Mr. Necmi Sadıkoğlu, Honorary Presidents of UNIW; Mr. İsmail Tuğrul, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Executive Board of the Foundation for Volunteer Organizations of Türkiye (TGTV); Mr. Hamza Akbulut, Chairman of the Founding Board of TGTV; Sheikh Muhammet Abdülkerim, Secretary General of the Association of Islamic Scholars; Fauwaz Hasbullah (Malaysia) and Hakan Musab Aydın (Germany), Deputy Secretaries General of UNIW; the President of IYP; and numerous representatives of civil society organizations from Türkiye and abroad.

The speeches delivered during the General Assembly emphasized UNIW's mission of strengthening cooperation among civil society organizations across the Islamic world, fostering joint initiatives, and assuming a more influential role on international platforms. Speakers highlighted the importance of cooperation between public institutions and civil society and underscored that UNIW's efforts—guided by the principles of unity, solidarity, and shared responsibility—make significant contributions toward addressing the common challenges facing the Islamic world.

The newly elected leadership is expected to further strengthen UNIW's institutional capacity, expand its contribution to international civil society initiatives, and enhance coordination among member organizations. In the new term, UNIW remains committed to pursuing its mission through an inclusive, participatory, and sustainable approach to civil society development.
