UNIW and AFAD Convene Strategic Meeting on Humanitarian Aid to Yemen
UNIW and Veysel Karani Foundation met with AFAD President Dr. Mehmet Güllüoğlu to evaluate comprehensive aid strategies for Yemen.
A consultative meeting on humanitarian relief for Yemen was held with AFAD President Dr. Mehmet Güllüoğlu. Salah Batis, President of the Yemen Veysel Karani Foundation, also participated in the meeting. The outcomes and operational logistics of humanitarian aid vessels dispatched to Yemen in recent years were thoroughly reviewed.
Mr. Salah Batis presented an update on the social, economic, and political landscape in Yemen, emphasizing the grave humanitarian catastrophe resulting from damaged bureaucratic infrastructure. He outlined their strategic educational initiatives, notably a joint project with YTB and Ensar Foundation to provide higher education scholarships in Turkey for 1,000 Yemeni students.
Batis highlighted the deep affection Yemeni people hold for Turkey, suggesting relief corridors starting from flood-affected regions like Al-Mahrah. AFAD President Dr. Mehmet Güllüoğlu underlined that Yemen-focused NGOs in Turkey should form a unified coordination commission to operate under a coherent, sustainable strategic plan presented to higher authorities.
