We Met with Our Member NGOs at UNIW Headquarters

The Union of NGOs of the Islamic World (UNIW) held an extended secretariat meeting on December 4, 2019, with the participation of representatives from member non-governmental organizations.

The meeting commenced with an opening address by UNIW Secretary General Atty. Ali Kurt, who briefed the participants on the outcomes of the 2nd International Family Workshop. Kurt stated: 'During our workshop, we held in-depth consultations regarding family issues. The family is the core nucleus of society and faces severe threats today. There is significant confusion surrounding various legal frameworks. Violence against women is unacceptable in our civilization, yet international conventions imposed upon us have not reduced violence, but on the contrary, statistical indicators show concerning trends.'

Dr. Rabiye Yılmaz, Co-Chair of the Women, Family, and Youth Council (KAGE), provided a concise evaluation regarding linguistic and contextual discrepancies that alter original meanings during translation processes.

Furthermore, Secretary General Ali Kurt presented information on the consultation meetings held with Istanbul-based member NGOs working on the Palestinian cause and the outcomes of the 'International Conference on Israeli Apartheid: Dimensions, Practices and Methods of Struggle' held on November 29-30.

Young UNIW President Serdar Bayram gave a presentation regarding recent youth activities and the 22nd Training and Consultation Camp. In addition, Mrs. Funda Ozan Akyol, President of the Istanbul Women and Women's Organizations Association, underlined the critical importance of active NGO accreditation and participation at the United Nations and the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.

The meeting concluded with gratitude expressed by Secretary General Ali Kurt and attendees for the comprehensive program and collaborative discussions.
